Dr. Dre seemingly put all Detox anticipation to rest when he released his 2015 album, Compton. It was seen as his third and final solo studio album in a classic lineage dating back to 1992’s The Chronic solo debut.

Whether shelved or scrapped, the promoted album known as Detox, which included singles “Kush”and “I Need A Doctor,” was reported to have shed some of its beats to make Aftermath Entertainment debuts for 50 Cent, The Game, and others. As Dre touted on 1999’s “Still D.R.E.,” he takes time to perfect the beat—and fans waited more than a dozen years for a thematic trilogy closer that never surfaced. Thus, Detox will always be the crowning punchline for a project perpetually in the works, whether it was ever supposed to come out or not. Interestingly now though, Heads still might be getting snippets of what the unreleased LP was supposed to be.

On Soundcloud, a file titled “Quit Thirsting Over Detox” was uploaded yesterday (April 30) and it contains multiple snippets of unreleased Dre verses over instrumentals that sound a lot like those in his musical canon. Additionally, one of Dre’s star proteges, Snoop Dogg makes an appearance in the medley.

Lyrically, in the sampling Dre refers to “The Chronic 3,” which suggests that these were recorded after the release of his 1999 sophomore LP 2001. He also says on top of another instrumental “You can wear that tight sh*t if you want,” presumably referring to tight jeans and shirts. So while it may be a little outdated, the song could be a product of the later time Detox was reportedly in the works.

The last time anything new about Detox surfaced was earlier this year when Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine stopped by the Golden State Warriors practice facility. ESPN NBA reporter Chris Haynes asked the Compton native about the project’s progress and according to him, replied, “I’m working on a couple [of] songs right now. We’ll see.” Maybe this latest leak is another step in that direction.

In last summer’s Defiant Ones docu-series, Dre was also filmed working alone on beats in his California estate.
