If you don't know the name Danny Trejo then you will most likely recognize the mean mug and infamous chest tattoo. This guy has been the stand out Mexican gangster or enforcer in many of movies. He just released his first starring role movie "
Machete" which features Jessica Alba, Robert Dinero, Michelle Rodriguez and other notable Hollywood actors but this post isnt to talk up "Machete". I must admit that because of all the "Machete" hoopla I did stumble upon this documentary about Danny Trejo's life. For some time I have already felt like I know this dude being that my boy is actually down with him and has been working on a project in which Danny is helping him develop. In watching this documentary I see where Danny's helping nature comes from. Seriously my boy never stops talking about how cool Danny is and how he goes out of his way to help him fulfill his dream of making a movie of his own. This movie is not about your typical Hollywood actor growing up with abusive parents and losing all there money. This film is about a real dude who grew up in the hood and did hood shit. This film is about going down the wrong path and someone who was able to remarkably beat the odds and find the right path. Danny goes in depth about his criminal background which includes drugs, gangs, armed robbery and the inevitable stints in prison. He explains how he was able to turn his life around by focusing on helping others. The film is directed by Joe Eckhardt and features commentary by Dennis Hopper, Val Kilmer, Steve Buscemi (Boardwalk Empire), and many other Hollywood celebs. I highly recommend this film, so rent it, stream it on netflix or just catch it on youtube. Here's the trailer to the film "
Champion".
