Last night I came across this documentary
"Life + Debt" (2001) directed by Stephanie Black. The film is about Jamaica but in truth the movie is about the effects of economic globalization (aka The New World Order) on developing countries. My thoughts while watching this movie went from feeling bad as a person who has traveled to Jamaica, to anger at our ignorance, to realizing the same thing is happening in our own nation. Watch this movie and tell me if you don't see the similarities in local communities and businesses suffering to big business within our very own country. I realized this is not us "The United States" against them its our governments policies dictated by corporate monsters which ultimately effect all of us. Jamaica and countries like it are but like the canary in the cave to the extreme effects this will have on the majority of us in the global community. This movie touches upon many things. It touches upon local economies, banking, politics, corporate monopolies, and even the health and deterioration of our food supply. In light of the recent violence in Jamaica, I think this is a great film that can open our eyes to what is actually going on in the world around us and how our consumption is directly related to these problems. We would be foolish not to see how this is already affecting us and affect us. Watch the trailer above and then I recommend you rent the movie, stream on netflix or watch for free on
youtube.
